The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is filled with unicorns of the bourbon world. They’re released in such limited quantities and the demand is so high that it’s almost unheard of to see one sitting on a shelf of a liquor store. If you do happen upon one, the price is usually well above its actual retail.
Bourbon House is lucky to secure a few bottles each year of these scarce whiskeys and has been saving a few select releases to hold a series of vertical tastings.
The first Vertical Tasting is with Thomas Handy on March 18th at 6:30pm. Named after the New Orleans bartender who first used rye whiskey in the Sazerac Cocktail, this uncut and unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey is bottled directly from the barrel – just as it was over a century ago. Powerful, lush, and boldly spicy with flavors of toffee, fig cake, and candied fruit, followed by mint, cinnamon and clove.
This vertical tasting includes pours of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 releases, all of which are exceedingly rare, with bottles fetching upwards of $500. Dickie Brennan & Co. Beverage Director and Bourbon Steward, Barry Himel will lead the guided tasting. But this isn’t just a tasting, it’s a party too! We’ll have cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres to pair with the rye whiskey.
